Joe Laszlo
Research Director and Principal Analyst

Joe joined The Relevancy Group in March, 2017, as the Principal Analyst covering the marketing and advertising technology (or Madtech) space.  Joe brings to Relevancy almost two decades of experience researching and advising companies on the evolution of digital media, and setting standards and best practices to guide its development.

Prior to TRG, Joe spent almost nine years at the Interactive Advertising Bureau, where played a variety of roles.  He served as Director of Research; helped build the Mobile Center of Excellence; and most recently oversaw all of IAB’s committee- and council-driven programs and projects, managing deliverables, defining initiatives, and ensuring effective communication and collaboration across groups.

Joe led IAB projects including:  chairing two IAB conferences on programmatic buying; overseeing the IAB’s 2016 Podcast Upfront; writing buyer’s guides on mobile, tablet, and mobile video advertising; developing the IAB MRAID standard for mobile rich media advertising; managing major research projects on cross-media ad effectiveness and consumer mobile behavior; and working with the Media Rating Council (MRC) to establish guidelines for counting PC web audiences and mobile ad impressions.

Joe started his career in digital media in 1999, as an analyst at Jupiter Research.  While there, Joe researched and wrote about topics including the development and adoption of broadband, telecommunications service bundles, the rise of mobile interactivity, and digital video strategies and business models.

Joe has long served as an industry expert and evangelist, speaking extensively at industry conferences, providing expertise to journalists, and writing a bimonthly column for ClickZ.

Joe has a Master’s in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University, and got his undergraduate degree in East Asian Studies from Columbia University.  Joe lives in New York City.  Outside of Madtech, his passions include the city’s rich cultural life, the art of breadmaking, and sailing.
